MAY 2026
May has arrived, and Spring is in full swing. Warmer days, blooming flowers, fresh scents, and smiling faces—there’s something about this season that lifts everyone’s mood just a little higher. With only 35 days of classroom activities left before summer break, it’s hard to believe how quickly the time has flown by. But these final weeks will be packed with engaging activities, both indoors and out—so hold on tight…here we go!

A Special Message to All Families
We would like to gently remind everyone about the Church’s Memorial Garden, located between the small parking lot and the Church building. This beautiful and peaceful space was created as a loving tribute to those we have lost. It is a place for quiet reflection, prayer, and rest—an opportunity to sit in the sun and find calm amidst the busyness of life.
To preserve the sacred nature of this garden, we kindly ask that there be no bikes, tricycles, scooters, roller skates, or ball games within the garden area. The wide variety of plants, flowers, and trees are meant to be appreciated with your eyes, not touched or played with. We warmly invite you to sit on one of the benches and enjoy a moment of peace.
We ask that children refrain from picking flowers or climbing the apple tree, and that all visitors treat this space with the care and respect it deserves.
If you’re looking for a place to gather and play after school, we recommend finding a neighbourhood park to go to instead of playing in the parking lot and the gardens surrounding the house at the corner of the parking lot.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we work together to keep the Memorial Garden a serene and respectful space for everyone.
Upcoming School Closures and Special Events
If your family is planning any holidays or you plan on leaving school before the scheduled last day, and you have not already done so, please let the office know of your plans. Teachers have many things planned for the next two months and having advanced notice of absenses is very helpful! Thanks in advance!
CAN YOU HELP US??
We’d love to hear your story.
If our program has made a difference for your child or family, would you be open to sharing your experience? Your words help other parents understand what it’s really like and make confident decisions for their own children.
You don’t need to write anything formal—just speak from the heart. If you’re not sure where to start, here are a few prompts you can use:
What was your biggest concern before joining us?
What changes have you seen in your child since starting?
Was there a specific moment when you thought, “This is working”?
How has your child’s confidence, skills, or attitude shifted?
What would you say to another parent who’s considering this?
Even a few sentences can make a big impact.
If you’re happy to include your name and your child’s age (or initials), that helps make your story more relatable—but it’s completely up to you.
You can submit your testimonial to the preschool office: stcpre@telus.net
Thank you for being part of our community and for helping other families feel supported.
RAINBOW ROOM - Danielle, Karen, Vibha
Dear Preschool Families,
April has been a joyful and activity-filled month in our classroom! With the rainy days helping flowers bloom outside, our learning has been growing just as beautifully indoors.
We began the month celebrating Easter. The excitement was contagious when the “Easter Bunny” made a special visit to our preschool! The children had so much fun searching for eggs hidden around the classroom, proudly carrying their beautifully decorated Easter baskets. We also spent time decorating Easter cookies—covered in colourful icing and sprinkles—which were happily enjoyed during snack time.
As the month continued, our focus shifted to our Farm theme. The children explored the many animals that live on a farm and learned about what they provide for us. We discussed how cows give us milk and dairy products like cheese and yogurt, chickens provide eggs, and sheep offer wool for clothing. We also talked about other contributions such as honey from bees, leather from cows, and even how animals help with work on the farm—like horses pulling equipment or dogs herding animals.
We explored the roles and responsibilities of farm animals in simple, engaging ways—understanding that each animal has an important purpose. This helped the children build awareness of where everyday items come from and appreciation for the work that happens on a farm.
Throughout the month, we incorporated a variety of fine motor activities into our art projects. These experiences support important developmental skills such as:
Hand-eye coordination
Finger strength
Pencil and tool control
Bilateral coordination (using both hands together)
Precision and dexterity
Early writing readiness
The children practiced these skills through cutting, gluing, painting, decorating, and manipulating small materials—while expressing their creativity at the same time.
As we approach the end of April, the children will begin preparing a special Mother’s Day surprise. We’re excited for them to create something meaningful to share with you!
We will also be introducing our new theme: Animals Around the World. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to explore learning at home with your child. Together, you have chosen an animal, and you will discover where it lives, what it eats, and any unique features it has. This kind of shared exploration helps deepen children’s curiosity and love of learning.
Thank you for your continued support and involvement. We are so proud of all the growth we’ve seen this month and look forward to everything that May will bring!
Warm regards,
Your Preschool Teachers
TREEHOUSE ROOM - Gabi, Mary, Catriona
After two weeks of Spring Break, the children and teachers returned to school, ready to continue our journey together. Although Spring officially began on March 20, the preschool was closed at that time. After Spring Break, the children were able to truly experience the beauty of the season, with blossoms appearing on the trees and signs of new life all around us. The change in weather and environment brought a fresh sense of energy and excitement to the classroom.
This month, we enjoyed a variety of engaging and meaningful activities. We began with an Easter egg hunt, as our Easter service took place before Spring Break. The children did a great job that day and showed wonderful participation. They were very excited throughout the activity! First, they made and decorated their own baskets with the help of teachers, using a variety of creative materials. Then, just before Easter, each child searched for chocolate eggs hidden around the classroom. This activity encouraged teamwork and observation skills, and it added a lot of joy to our day.
Our themes this month included Farm, Eric Carle’s books and activities, Pete the Cat, and Science. These themes allowed us to explore different areas of learning through play, creativity, and hands-on experiences.
The farm theme is always a favourite among the children. They learned about farming, farm life, and different farm animals. Each day, they were introduced to one or two animals, learning about their sounds, habitats, and roles on the farm. Their art projects and daily activities were connected to these animals, helping reinforce their learning in a fun and interactive way.
Many of our children attended orientation days at their kindergarten this month. Because of this, we increased our focus on school readiness and independence. We provided a variety of literacy and math activities to encourage critical thinking and help develop important life skills. Activities included cutting, tracing letters and numbers, recognizing shapes, and exploring simple concepts such as symmetry. We also supported children in building confidence, following routines, and developing independence in daily tasks.
Eric Carle’s books and Pete the Cat by James Dean are very popular in our classroom. Our story time, art projects, and many activities were inspired by these books. One of the stories we read was Pancakes, Pancakes! After reading it, the children learned about the steps of making pancakes and participated in each step of the process. They truly enjoyed this hands-on learning experience, and then they all ate their pancakes together, which made the activity even more special and memorable.
This month, we also visited the Capilano Library in the Village. We walked there together, practising safety and cooperation along the way. The librarian provided a wonderful and engaging story time session that the children thoroughly enjoyed. It was a great opportunity for children to learn how to behave responsibly outside the school environment and served as excellent practice for future field trips.
We were lucky to have many sunny days, so the children spent plenty of time outdoors enjoying the fresh air. They played in the playground and sandbox, engaged in group play, and explored their surroundings. Outdoor play supports both physical development and social skills, and it was wonderful to see the children so active and happy.
We also invited parents to send their children with their favourite books. The children were very excited to share them with their friends. They practised presenting and explaining their books, and some were even able to retell the stories in their own words. This activity helped build confidence, language skills, and a sense of pride. Sharing books and ideas is a wonderful way for children to learn from each other and their environment.
In addition, science continues to be one of the most popular topics in the Treehouse Room. We have a variety of simple and engaging science books that help children understand basic concepts in an accessible way. We also regularly conduct science experiments. The children are always eager to participate, ask questions, and observe what happens during each step. Some experiments take place over two days, allowing them to follow up, make predictions, and see the results over time.
This month, we explored a “Water Walk” experiment. The children watched as water “walked” from one cup to another using paper towels. Along the way, they explored colour mixing and learned basic colour theory in a fun and hands-on way. This experiment sparked curiosity and excitement, and the children were very interested in observing the changes over time.
We continue to send Echo home with the children. Each child has a chance to spend time with Echo, create their own story or experience, and then share it with their friends.
Friendly reminder: Please continue to dress your children in layers, as mornings are still chilly. As the children are very active and spending more time outdoors, appropriate clothing is important. Thank you for your continued support! And PLEASE, make sure you call or email the office when your child is going to absent or late.
RESOURCE ROOM - Marion
May is a very special and rewarding time in the preschool. I am constantly observing the children practising all the new skills that they have learned over the year.
The 3s are demonstrating their keen awareness of how to interact with peers and how they can play together cooperatively. Circle time is now a time of sharing, turn-taking and learning new things as a group. Their attention span has increased and they are now able to complete more complex tasks.
Kindergarten, here come the 4s! The children are demonstrating that they are ready for new challenges. Talk to your children about the impending changes, but don't overwhelm them. A good time to talk about moving into a new school would be after their Kindergarten orientation visit.
As this school year comes to a close, we would like to thank you for supporting our preschool over the years. We have spaces available in September and are actively advertising in the community. We would appreciate any testimonials you would be willing to share.
