JUNE 2025
June may be our last month of the school year, but it’s definitely not the quietest!
We’re squeezing in all the fun, celebrations, and wrap-up activities we can to finish the year with a bang and send everyone into summer with a smile.
THE BUTTERFLIES HAVE ARRIVED!!
Well… not quite butterflies just yet — but our caterpillars have officially arrived! They showed up already quite large, and some are already hanging in their signature “J” shape, getting ready to form their chrysalises. It won’t be long before they complete their incredible transformation and emerge as beautiful Painted Lady Butterflies!
Once they’ve all made their debut and the children have had a chance to observe them up close, we’ll head outside for a special moment. With the help of our young scientists, we’ll release the butterflies into the Memorial Garden, where they can flutter freely and help pollinate the vibrant flowers blooming there.
Graduation Ceremony for the 4s
Off They Go—Ready to Soar!
It’s hard to believe another group of our incredible four-year-olds is ready to take that big step into the Elementary school world! We couldn’t be prouder of the growth we’ve seen in them during their time here at St. Catherine’s. They’ve built strong foundations, developed essential skills, and shown us just how capable and curious they are.
We know they’re more than ready for this next adventure, and we’re confident they’ll shine brightly as they take on new challenges, make new friends, and continue to grow. Go get ’em, grads—you’ve got this!

Let’s send the school year off in style—see you there!
Hello Parents
After 32 years of teaching children in Edgemont Village, we're excitedly preparing for another fantastic year at our preschool, and we need your support to help us fill our classrooms for September 2025!
Word of mouth has always been our most powerful and trusted form of advertising. If you love our preschool, please share your experience with friends, family, neighbors—anyone who might be looking for a warm, nurturing, and engaging place for their little one.
We’ve also created some eye-catching postcards available in the preschool office. These are perfect for posting on community boards at local coffee shops, libraries, recreation centres, and other neighborhood spots. If you can, please take a few with you and help spread the word in your area.
With your help, we can continue to grow our wonderful preschool community and welcome more amazing families like yours. Thank you for being such an important part of our success!
Are you going on Vacation or leaving for Summer early?? LET US KNOW NOW! It helps us to know early if your child will be away!!

Hello Everyone,
We have had a new and exciting theme to explore this past month, with each child choosing a favourite animal, preparing a short presentation about it, and the teachers planning related books, songs, activities, and art projects. We also made sure to feature each animal in the play dough, water, and science tables, puzzles and toys, and the Home Corner.
We put up a world map, and found where the animals lived, and then started to fill the rest of that display board with our artwork depicting each species.
Teacher Carol started us off, by way of example, with Kangaroos.
Then our first child introduced us to the Axoltle, an amazing little creature, the unicorn of salamanders. Most of us hadn’t heard of this one before, but we had a lovely bejewelled poster to refer to! Next we saw pictures of our other friend actually feeding a Giraffe (it had a black tongue!) With the Frog, we got back to amphibians and made cute paper plate frog faces, then went miles away to see Penguins: it turns out, most don’t live on the ice. We made monkeys with long tails, and hung them in the classroom from our ceiling. One friend has seen real Camels, and shared their favourite book with us and another told us all about Koalas, another animal whose babies are called joeys. We learned about Snakes and made a coiling paper one, then heard all about Sheep, and made sheep masks and marched and sang songs. Next we went to Africa and learned about Lions and used forks to paint their manes. We learned that Elephants are from Africa and South Asia and made masks for ourselves, and played at being elephants. One friend told us about Gerbils, and we used felt and sawdust to decorate our paintings of them. Another friend told us all about Cats, both wild and domestic, and explained why our pet cats act the way they do. Then we moved on to learn about Salmon; so interesting and close to home, here in North Vancouver. For art we made very realistic looking silver and red scaly fish. Next was the Hippo, back in Africa, and we cut, glued and painted our art of them.
One friend told us all about Pigs (not just Peppa) and we used tissue paper and paint to make very cute little ones. Next was the Rabbit, with lots of songs and stories, and adorable paper plate masks. We were told about Otters; where they live, what they eat and what they are really good at doing. We made beautiful pictures of them swimming in the sea, using rollers for the paint. We learned about Bears, black and brown, and made handprint paintings of them. Next we heard all about Dogs: the many breeds and how to tell how our dogs are feeling. We even had a special visit from a real dog: very well behaved and well trained. Our last presentation was about Whale Sharks. For that art, we used bubble wrap to stamp the sharks with the distinctive pattern of white on black.
That’s 21 different animals, and all so interesting. We want to thank all the parents and carers that helped the children prepare for this project. It was a lot of work, but also a lot of fun and a great opportunity for the children.
In June, we will be busy making a special Father’s Day surprise, and then talking about Summer, and all the fun things we can get up to in the summer holidays. We will talk about the seashore and beaches, and going on vacation to all sorts of places; as well as staying home, playing, and exploring our gardens and parks.
St. Catherine’s Preschool has once again got some caterpillars that we are watching closely as they first turn into a chrysalis and then emerge as a Painted Lady butterfly. When they have all emerged, we will release them on a warm day, in our garden. Thank you Marion, for looking after them, and continuing this annual tradition.
Our Year End Parties will be on Thursday 19th and Friday 20th of June. Each class has one child graduating and moving on to Kindergarten in September, and we will have a ceremony for them on the party days.
The next three weeks of preschool are going to fly by so quickly, that we wish to take this opportunity to thank all our parents and families for joining us for a year of learning through play. It has been a joy and an honour to have had each of your children in our classroom, and we hope you have a safe and happy summer break. We will see most of you next term, but if your child is moving on, do please come to visit us!
All the best,

Dear Treehouse Families,
As we move into the final stretch of our school year, we look back and notice that we have been enjoying every moment together in the classroom — learning, laughing, and growing!
The first few weeks our theme focused on Transportation. Whether it was building block cities with roads for cars and trucks or crafting paper rockets or sailing away on a boat their imaginations truly took flight. These hands-on activities sparked great conversations and questions, and we loved seeing their curiosity in motion.
In honour of Mother’s Day, the children put so much love and effort into creating their Mommy and Me bracelets and the flower cards. It was heartwarming to see the care they took in making something special just for you. We hope these handmade gifts brought a smile to your face and reminded you how cherished you are!
We’ve also finished our classroom rotation with our cuddly visitor, Echo! Every child has now had a turn bringing Echo home. Thank you so much for your participation — the children were always excited to share their adventures with Echo, and it added something very special to our classroom.
Our recent Bring Your Own Book day was a big hit! The children were proud to bring in their favourite stories and share them during circle time. It was so special to see how confident and engaged they were as they helped retell the stories to their classmates.
We also wrapped up our Show and Share time, and what a fun time it was! The children brought in all kinds of interesting and creative items — from favourite toys to special treasures — and loved showing them off to their friends. It was a wonderful way to build confidence and communication skills, and everyone looked forward to their turn.
As we near the end of this memorable school year, we’re excited to announce our Graduation Party and Ceremony will be held on June 20. It’s a special moment to celebrate everything the children have accomplished, and we can’t wait to share it with all of you. A sign-up sheet for treats and supplies, will be posted outside in the pick-up and drop-off area starting this week.
Thank you, as always, for being such a supportive and involved part of our Treehouse family.
Have a wonderful summer!
RESOURCE ROOM - MARION
Flipped my calendar and we are into June already! It seems like only yesterday when we were greeting everyone during gradual entry. I have enjoyed spending time in the classrooms and watching the children grow and meet their developmental milestones as their own pace through play. We will miss the children heading off to Kindergarten, but they are ready to start their next chapter.
Our caterpillars seventeen (17) arrived safely and are all in the chrysalis stage. The children are anxiously waiting to see them emerge into beautiful Painted Lady butterflies. After about a week of watching them eat and grow, we will release them in the Memorial Garden.
Also, we have four (4) Preschool garden boxes and the children have helped to plant flowers and vegetables. They have even sang their little Easter Service song about planting a little seed while digging in the dirt.
Thank you for all your support this year and please enjoy your Summer days with family and friends. Remember to laugh together - it is good for the soul.
